Oral Cancer Screening: An Essential Step for Early Detection and Treatment

April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month, and the Healthy Bahamas Coalition (HBC) is urging people to prioritize oral cancer screenings as part of their routine healthcare assessments. Oral cancer is a serious and often deadly disease, but it can be effectively treated if detected early through regular screenings.

Melissa D. Major, HBC’s Cancer Awareness Sub-Committee Lead, emphasizes the importance of regular oral cancer screenings. “Oral cancer screenings are quick, easy, and painless. During the exam, your dentist can identify any abnormal tissue or growths that may be cancerous or precancerous. If (it is) caught early, treatment can be much more effective and less invasive.”
